National Interschool Chess
Services and costs The registration fee of $77 per student is the only compulsory cost of participating in the National Interschool Championships. Below are the additional optional services for which schools may register. Our easy initial Registration Form enables you to give a non-binding indication of the services that you expect to require. |
Accommodation and MealsAccommodation is available on site at Mannix College. Accommodation is mostly in single student rooms with a shared bathroom. There are separately designated areas and bathrooms for female students. Breakfast is included in the room price. Lunch and Dinner is also available each day. Costs
Accommodation and meals for visiting schools need to be booked in advance through the registration form on this website. School teams seeking accommodation should not contact Mannix College directly. All dietary requirements also need to be notified in advance. Lunches are available at the College not only to the Resident visiting schools, but also to commuting Victorian schools. Again these should be pre-booked. Please email events@chesskids.com.au |
CoachingThe Championships are designed to be a full two-day educational chess immersion. The pace of the schedule is leisurely, in order that all students have the opportunity to obtain the maximum learning benefit from each of their games. All players must record the moves of all of their games. Paper scorebooks and pens will be provided. Coaching Lounge Chess Kids will be operating a Coaching Lounge, staffed by a large team of Expert Chess Coaches, including multiple International Masters and titled players. Schools have the option of purchasing a Coaching Lounge Pass, being a wristband which allows entry to the Coaching Lounge and entitles the holder to expert one-on-one game analysis for all 7 rounds. Pass-holders should bring their scorebook and proceed to the Coaching Lounge on completion of each game. If their opponent also has a Coaching Lounge Pass, the two players should go together to analyse their game, as it is even more beneficial to add your opponent's insights to the discussion. Costs
Note for schools with own coach The coaching lounge is an excellent resource, but it is an optional service. Schools with their own chess coach are welcome to conduct their own analysis sessions instead with their students. We shall have an area set up for this, and/or visiting coaches can use a portion of the playing hall if all games on nearby boards have already been completed. |
